Bangladesh tour of New Zealand began on Boxing Day (26th December) with first ODI match of three match series. The home team, New Zealand defeated Bangladesh convincingly by 77 runs in Christchurch on Monday. As it is three matches series, Bangladesh in a position to come back quickly and to show good performances in this must-win game. If Bangladesh not able to win this game at Nelson, Kiwis would seal the series. So, Bangladeshi players should perform well and outplay Blackcaps to keep this series alive. This Match is scheduled to start at 11 AM Local | 3:30 AM IST on Thursday, 29th December.


In Christchurch, New Zealanders came with brilliant innings. The openers Martin Guptill and Tom Latham started well. But, Guptill lost his wicket for 15 runs. After some good partnership, Captain Williamson gone for 31 runs. But Tom Latham stood tall in the middle and came with brilliant 137 runs. Colin Munro supported him very well and he scored quick fire 87 off just 61 balls. With the efforts of Latham and Munro, Kiwis posted 341 for 7 in 50 overs. After setting a target, New Zealand bowlers came with good show and assured 77 runs win in the end. All rounder James Neesham was best pick of the bowler, 3/36 in 7 overs. Lockie Ferguson also picked up 3 important wickets and Tim Southee came with 2 wickets. Kiwis should show similar kind of performances with both bat and bowl to secure a series victory on Thursday.

On other side, visitors Bangladesh are in a position of must-win to keep the series alive. Bangladesh players tried hard in Christchurch. Best All rounder of Bangladeshi side, Shakib Al Hasan was a best pick of the bowler on other day, he came with 3/69 in 10 overs. The fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman who returned back to international cricket after losing several months due to injury picked 2/ 62 in his 10 overs quota. Captain Mortaza finished his spell without taking any wickets in 1st ODI. While batting, most experienced batsmen in Bangladesh team, Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan batted well and tried to chased down the target. Iqbal gone for 38 and Shakib scored 59 runs. Wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim batted well, when we was at 42 – unfortunately he got injured and it made him to walk way to pavilion as retired hurt. Now, he misses out the 2nd ODI on Thursday, Nurul Hasan replaces him and he will take care of gloves work behind the stumps. Half century from Mosaddek late in the middle order gave some hope for Bangladesh fans. But they bowled out for 264 runs in 45th over. To maintain a series hope, Bangladesh players should perform better than Monday and should re-group quickly in all aspects of the game.

Nurul Hasan replaces injured Wicket Keeper Mushfiqur Rahim. Soumya Sarkar’s bad run continues. He mostly misses out on Thursday. Bangladesh management might go with Mehedi Hasan who had dream debut in test series against England or Tanbir Hayder at this slower pitch in Nelson.
