West Indies traveled to UAE to play 3 T20I, 3 ODIs and 3 Tests. Now, they completed two formats of series in the tour and lost all 6 matches to Pakistan. First it was T20I series where Pakistan whitewash West Indies with a 3-0 series win. After a successful T20 series, Pakistan faced West Indies in 3-match ODI series. After winning a third ODI on last night, now Pakistan whitewashed West Indies second straight time in a row! The clean-sweep 3-0 ODI wins lifted Pakistan to 8th in ICC rankings.
Pakistan and West Indies played first two ODIs at Sharjah on last weekend. Pakistan won both the matches and young top-order batsman from Pakistan Babar Azam won twin Man of the match award for his back-to-back tons. On Wednesday evening these two teams met again in the third and final ODI which were played at Abu Dhabi. Pakistan captain Azhar Ali won the toss once again and decided to bat first. Pakistan made one chance to their playing XI. Sohail Khan came in for Mohammad Amir. In West Indies, Evin Lewis and Shannon Gabriel came in for Johnson Charles and Carlos Brathwaite respectively.
The complete pressure on Pakistan skipper and opening batsman Azhar Ali. He failed to score in both matches in this series. He opened the innings along with Sharjeel Khan. Azhar Ali played his shots with confident and Sharjeel also gave a good start. Pakistan reached 50 runs in just 6 overs. Sulieman Benn was the bowler who gave first breakthrough for his team. Sharjeel was the man dismissed for 38 runs off 41 balls (5 fours) and team score were 85 for 1 in 15th over.
The in-form batsman Babar Azam came at no. 3 and joined his captain Azhar. Pakistan reached 100 runs in 20th over. Azhar Ali completed his half-century in 63 balls. The two players played aggressive cricket in the middle overs and assured scoreboard ticking. 150 runs were came in 26th over. Babar reached his fifty in 48 balls. These two completed 100-runs partnership for the 2nd wicket and Pakistan crossed 200 runs in 33rd over. Skipper Azhar Ali reached his milestone of 100 runs in 107 balls. It was his 3rd ODI century as Pakistan captain. After completed his hundred, Azhar Ali fall for 101 runs with 8 fours and a six. WI captain Holder picked a wicket of Azhar Ali.
Shoaib Malik came at no. 4 and fell for just 5 runs and Pakistan’s 3rd wicket down for 239 runs. Wicket-keeper batsman Sarfaraz came in to bat at no. 5. Meanwhile, Babar Azam achieved a big thing of his career. He hits another 100 runs in this ODI series and this is his 3rd in three matches. He became a second youngest cricketer to achieve this feat. After scoring 117 runs, Azam dismissed off Pollard’s medium pace. He scored 117 off 108 with 8 fours and a six. Alzarri Joseph picked 2 quick wickets at end of the innings and Pakistan finished their innings for 308 for 6. Sarfaraz remained not out with 24 runs and Imad four not out. For West Indies, Alzarri Joseph picked 2 for 62 in 8 overs.
West Indies came to bat to chase a target of 309 in 50 overs. This time Kraigg Brathwaite came to middle along with new opening partner Evin Lewis. It was Lewis’s debut match in ODI cricket. The two openers provided a steady start for their team. Evin Lewis played couple of fours in Sohail Khan’s over. West Indies lost their 1st wicket for 45 runs in 10th over. Lewis was the first man who dismissed for 22 runs and Sohail Khan was a wicket-taker for Pakistan.
Darren Bravo came at no. 3. These two added 30 runs for the 2nd wicket and Brathwaite was the man dismissed for 32 runs. Malik provided a wicket for Pakistan. Experienced Samuels joined with Bravo, but the partnership were broken with a wicket of Bravo. He gone for 17 off 40 balls, Wahab picked his wicket. Wicket keeper Dinesh Ramdin was a next batsman. On other side, Samuels lost his wicket for 13 runs (run out) and West Indies were in trouble with 93 for 4 in 23rd over. West Indies reached 100 runs in the 25th over. Kieron Pollard was the next batsman got out for 11 runs and Nawaz picked his first. West Indies were in deep trouble with 117 for 5.
Captain Jason Holder was the next man in at no. 7. He joined Ramdin and built some of partnership for 6th wicket. Holder scored quick runs with a boundary and six. Imad Wasim broke 42-run stand for the 6th wicket and Holder got out for 26 runs. Sunil Narine and Benn, both walked back to pavilion with duck. Mohammad Nawaz took those 2 wickets and he finished off with 3 for 40 in 9 overs. Ramdin faced 70 balls to score 37 runs before he ran out and West Indies innings comes to end for 172 all out in 44 overs.
Pakistan won by 136 runs and won the three match series with clean sweep of 3-0. West Indies team won World T20 6 months ago. Now, they faced two whitewash series back to back. The series win lifted Pakistan to no. 8 in ODI rankings and West Indies down to 9. Babar Azam was Man of the Match for his 117 runs knock. He also announced as Man of the series for his Hat-trick of centuries and 360 runs in 3 innings.
Pakistan and West Indies meets in 3-match test series which starts on 12th October, 2016 and the first match will be played underlights with pink ball at Abu Dhabi.
