India’s Left-handed opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out for the third and final test against New Zealand which starts on Saturyday, October 8, 2016. Shikhar did not get chance to play in the first test against New Zealand at Kanpur. As KL Rahul ruled out due to injury, Dhawan replaced him in the second test at Kolkata which concluded on yesterday.

Dhawan scored 1 and 17 runs in the Kolkata test. Now he has been ruled out from the 3rd and final test due to ‘very minor fracture’ on his left thumb and he needs at least of 15 days rest. Dhawan injured himself while batting on third day, when he was struck twice on the thumb by Trent Boult. India’s media manager Nishant Arora said that he has very minor fracture on his hand and he has been adviced for 15 day’s rest.

The selectors from BCCI announced Karnataka’s Karun Nair as a replacement player and he will join the squad for the 3rd test against the Blackcaps. Karun Nair, Karnataka’s second-highest run-getter in the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy, made his International debut during the ODI series in Zimbabwe in June. He was more recently part of India A squad that toured Australia for a Quadrangular One-day series and two first class matches. He use to bat at the middle order in longer format. As India’s middle order are well settled in this test series, Nair likely to sit out in the bench. If suppose he gets a chance to play a match, he will play his debut test match.

India vs New Zealand the third and Final test match starts at Indore on October 8th, Saturday.
