One-day International cricket were back on Sunday, Sep. 25 2016 with Only ODI of South Africa vs Ireland and 1st ODI of Bangladesh vs Afghanistan ODI series.
South Africa vs Ireland ODI Review :
The associated team Ireland in South Africa to play 2 ODI matches. One against the host South Africa and one against the no. 1 team in ICC ODI Rankings, Australia. This is big opportunity for the rank 12th Team who known for big stage upsets (WCs).
Ireland won the toss and elected to bowl first at Benoni. Ireland brought Craig Young and Dockrell to the playing XI. Bavuma, Pretorius, Phehlukwayo all made their debut for South Africa.
South Africa’s openers Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma made a very good start and build the foundation for the home team. Both the openers played attacking shots and they had scored 159 runs for the 1st wicket. Finally Ireland’s Kevin O’brien took a wicket of de Kock and broke the partnership. De Kock out for 82 off 66 balls (8 fours and 2 sixes). Skipper Du Plessis joined with Bavuma and the debutant continued his good form. Captain Faf du lost his wicket to Young after scoring 21 runs and total were 221/2 in 36th over. In the mean time Bavuma scored blistering hundred on his ODI debut and soon after Faf, Bavuma lost his wicket to the same bowler Young. Bavuma scored 113 off 123 (13 fours and a six).
David Miller and All-rounder JP Duminy made 40 runs partnership for the 4th wicket, the partnership were comes to an end when O’brien took a wicket of Miller. South Africa were 267/4 in 44th over. Behardien came to crease with 6 overs left in the innings. Behardien took a match away from Ireland with outstanding knock of 50 off just 22 balls (3 fours and 3 sixes). Meanwhile Duminy also reached his half-century. Young had last laugh when he picked a wicket of Behardien on the very last ball of the innings. South Africa posted 354 on the board for the loss of 5 wickets. Young (3) and O’brien (2) were the pick of the bowlers for the visitors.
With a mammoth target on front, Ireland’s openers Skipper Porterfield and Sterling started the proceedings. The young fast bowler Kagiso Rabada shocked Ireland’s team with a wicket of Porterfield on the very second ball of the innings. Porterfield walked back for duck. John Anderson was the new man who joined Sterling at the crease. The left arm Fast bowler Parnell picked a wicket of Anderson in 6th over of the innings and he got out for just 5 runs.
The experienced wicket keeper Gary Wilson was the next victim who lost a wicket to debutant Pretorius. Ireland were 41/3 in 10.3 overs when the big fish of Ireland squad Kevin O’brien comes to the middle. After little bit of partnership, Phangiso took his first wicket in the match by get a wicket of Paul Sterling. He scored 40 runs with 4 boundaries. Sean Terry was the 6th batsman and Ireland were struggling with 77/4. Parnell came back with his 2nd spell and made Terry walks back to the pavilion. He has scored 16 runs. After the wicket of Terry, the match turned in to JP Duminy show. The all-rounder picked a wickets in regular intervals and he finished with a spell of 4 for 16 in just 4.5 overs. He took 4 wickets including Kevin O’brien. Ireland all out for 148 runs in just 30.5 overs and Kevin O’brien was the top scorer with 41 runs.
South Africa won the game in style by 208 runs. This win helps South Africans to start their home season with a success. Temba Bavuma won the Man of the Match award for this 113 off 123 balls on his debut. Now South Africa are ready to face the Australians in 5 match ODI series which starts on later this week. In the other hand, Ireland are looking forward to the another big match where they are going to face Australia and that match is on Tuesday (tomorrow) at this same venue, Benoni.
Bangladesh vs Afghanistan 1st ODI Review :
The three match ODI series between Bangladesh and Afghanistan started with the first match on Sunday. The host Bangladesh did not play any International Cricket since WT20 in March-April and this was their first International match after long time. On the other hand the visitors won 14 out of 22 matches in 2016. That means the exciting series on the cards.
At Mirpur, Bangladesh Captain Mashrafe Mortaza won the toss and elected to bat first. Taskin Ahmed and Taijul Islam got a place in playing XI. In Afghan camp, Shabir Noori, Hashmatullah Shahidi and Naveen-ul Haq got chance in playing XI.
Bangladesh openers Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar started the proceedings. The Fast bowler Dawlat Zadran had different ideas. He surprised Sarkar on the very first over and took his first wicket of the match. Sarkar did not disturb the scorers and walked back to pavilion for duck. Imrul Kayes back in to the XI and he was the no. 3 batsman for home team. Tamim played his natural game along with Kayes. The partnership were building and these two top order batsman played their role well. Mohammad Nabi broke the 83-runs partnership by picking a wicket of Imrul Kayes. Kayes gone for 37 runs.
Mahmudullah was a new man and he straight away started to built a partnership along with experienced Tamim. Bangladesh’s scores are ticking as these 2 fine batsman playing their strokes. After well made 79 runs partnership, Tamim lost his wicket for 80 runs. Mirwais Ashraf was the man who broke this partnership. The team total were 163/3 in 35.1 overs. All-rounder Sakib Al Hasan joined with Mahmudullah and assured the scoreboard ticking. Mahmadullah reached his half-century before got out for 62 runs and Nabi picked his second wicket of the match (Score – 203/4). Wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rahman and Skipper Mashrafe Mortaza all lost their wickets in quick succession. Sakib got out for 48 runs and missed his half-century in just 2 runs. End of the innings, Bangladesh all out for 265 runs with high score of Tamim 80, Mahmudulla 62 and Shakib 48.
Dawlat Zadran (4/73), Rashid Khan (2/37) and Mohammad Nabi (2/40) were a pick of the bowlers for the visitors.
Bangldesh Skipper, Mashrafe bowled the first over of Afghan innings. Noori and wicket keeper Shahzad were begun the proceeding for the visitors. Hard-hitting batsman Shahzad started the show with his natural game. He has scored 31 off 21 balls with 4 fours and a six before he lost his wicket to Mortaza. Afghan were 46/1 in 7 overs. In the next over another opener Noori gone for just 9 runs and Afghan were struggled with 46/2. Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi concentrated on build an innings and rescue the team. Both played very well in the middle overs and both the batsman scored half-centuries.
Finally Shakib took a breakthrough by picking a wicket of Rahmat Shah who 71 runs with strike rate of 77. These 2 players posted 144 runs for the 3rd wicket. Afghan were on the driver seat as they need 76 off 58 with 7 wickets in hand. But Bangladesh bowlers came alive in the last 10 overs of the match. Taijul picked a wicket of in-form batsman Shahidi and he scored 72 runs. Afghan started to lose their remaining wickets in regular intervals and it started with a wicket of Najibullah Zadran. Afghanistan were 230/5 at the moment and they needed 36 more runs in 27 balls. Nabi scored 30 off 24 balls before he lost his wicket to Taskin Ahmed in the 48th over. Taskin picked up 4 wickets in his last 2 overs which assured a 7 runs win for the home team!
Bangladesh are the winners at end of this thrilling ODI contest. Now, Bangladesh lead the 3 match series with 1-0. Afghan side needs to win in the 2nd game to ensure the series alive. At the same time Bangladesh needs a win to secure their series win at home. The 2nd thrilling contest between these 2 teams on 28th Sep. 2016 (Wednesday) at the same venue Mirpur!
