When the both players were nearing to their Half-centuries, KL Rahul took a catch which played by Latham off Jadeja’s bowling. Umpires were in doubt as it seems the ball pitched on the turf when Latham sweeps that one.
In the replays it was that the ball hits Latham’s foot, not on the turf. But, there were a twist. While taking a catch Rahul was fumbled and the ball touched the grill of his helmet. After lot of replays, 3rd Umpire made decision in Batsman’s favor. As per cricketing rules, ball should not touch fielder’s helmet! After surviving from this controversial decision, Latham reached his Half-century mark. On the other end, Captain Williamson also scored his another test half-century. Their partnership were over 100 on that time. They remained not out until end of the second session.
End of second session NZ were 152/1 in 47 overs. Williamson remained not out with 65 and Latham with 56 not out. During the Tea time it was started to pouring at Kanpur.
