India vs New Zealand – 1st Test, Day-1 Review

The most awaited test series in this month, India vs New Zealand kick started today at Kanpur, India. End of Day-1 India’s score are 291/9 in 90 overs. Lets analyse today’s play in this review section.

Indian Captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat first at this batting pitch. India decided to play with 6 batsmen and 4 bowlers (2 spinners and 2 pace bowlers). Kiwis Captain Williamson looked bit disappointed by losing the toss. But, his bowlers came up very well in the 2nd part of the day’s play and brought back some satisfaction in his Captain’s face.

KL Rahul and Murali Vijay started the innings for India. The first hour of gone in India’s way. Rahul played some attacking shots, he got out for 32 runs (4 Fours and 1 six) off Santner’s spin. Pujara came to crease at no.3, then Vijay and Pujara partnership assures the scoreboard ticking. In the second session, Pujara got out for well made 62 (8 fours) and Santner picked his second wicket. India’s score were 154-2 at that time.

Captain Virat Kohli joined with Vijay, but Kohli dismissed for just 9 runs and it was Wagner’s first wicket. Then wickets started to tumbling. India lost his 4th wicket when Murali Vijay got out to Ish Sodhi’s spin. Score was 185-4. The middle-order collapsed then, Rahane 18, Rohit Sharma posted 35.

All-rounder Ashwin shown some spirit and scored 40 runs before got out off Trent Boult’s quicker. Wicket keeper Saha and Shami did not trouble the scorers. Boult picked both the wickets. Ravindra Jadeja is remaining not out for 18 along with Umesh Yadav (8*) at end of day’s play. Score 291-9

For New Zealand’s concerns the 3rd session gone in their favor. Santner and Boult picked 3 wickets each on day-1. Santner bowled 20 overs and picked 3 for 77. Boult’s figures are 3/57 in 17 overs. Mark Craig, Sodhi and Wagner all shared one wicket each.

On tomorrow, day-2 going to be interesting to watch. Whether the New Zealand going to take first innings lead or Indian bowlers, especially spinners takes the game away from the Kiwis? Let’s watch tomorrow 🙂
