New Zealand’s tour of India started with 1st test match on last week. Home team started a series with win and leading 3-match test series 1-0. The second match is starts on September 30th, Friday. Before the second test match, both team made changes to their respective squads.
Jeetan Patel in for Craig :
New Zealand’s offspinner Mark Craig being ruled out for the remaining two test matches. Craig, who suffered a side strain, was New Zealand’s best spinner, and the more accurate in the Kanpur Test. Mark Craig had made his comeback to the Kiwis side in Kanpur after missing all four tests in the recent tour of Africa.
Jeetan Patel, who last played for New Zealand in January 2013 will replace Mark Craig for the remaining 2 test matches. Jeetan was the leading wicket-taker in 2016 English County Championships with 69 wickets for his county team Warwickshire. He named as Most Valuable Player in the Professional Cricketer’s Associations rankings for the season. He is coming back to the New Zealand team after 3 and half years.
Gautam Gambhir in for KL Rahul :
The in-form top order batsman, KL Rahul injured his right hamstring during the Kanpur test. He was injured while running between the wickets. Rahul is out of the on-going test series due to hamstring injury, the experienced batsman from Delhi Gautam Gambhir joins the Indian squad as a replacement.
Gambhir joins the national squad for the first time since 2014. Gambhir’s recent form in domestic cricket give him this opportunity. In recent Duleep Trophy matches, he scored 356 runs in five innings at 71.20, and he was missed only once without getting to a half century. Gautam Gambhir has played 56 test match since his debut in 2004. He scored 4046 test runs in 100 innings he played with the high score of 206. As he captaining Kolkata Knight Riders side in IPL, he played so many matches at the venue for 2nd test match Kolkata. He knew Eden Gardens conditions better and it will help to shine again in International arena.
Jayant Yadav replaces Ill Ishant :
Ishant Sharma missed first test match at Kanpur due to illness. He affected with chikungunya and he is not fully recovered. So, BCCI announced the replacement player for Ishant Sharma. Uncapped Haryana off-spinner Jayant Yadav will replace Ishant Sharma. The 26-year old Jayant had very good ranji trophy season last year and he picked 7 wickets in recent India ‘A’ tour of Australia. He also played for Delhi Daredevils in IPL Season 9.
