AB de Villiers missed 2 match home test series against New Zealand last month and also missed only ODI vs Ireland on last Sunday. A month ago, he quoted that he feel pain from the beginning of 2016 and also said that he has five to six niggles at time including the shoulder. On Tuesday, ABD has failed to come through his fitness test.
Best batsman of this generation, ABD undergo surgery next week for a persisting elbow injury. The injury and surgery causes him 5 match ODI series against Australia which starts on this Friday and also makes him out of South Africa tour of Australia test series in November. The batsman needs eight to ten weeks of rest after the surgery.
Rilee Rossouw is the replacement player for his ODI captain and Faf du Plessis is likely to lead the side in upcoming ODI series vs Australia.
